Why We Serve:

“I began serving on the Board of Directors for the Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity because I wanted to get more involved in my community. I have always been passionate about affordable housing and strongly believe that individuals cannot thrive and be healthy when they do not have a safe and comfortable place to sleep at night. I appreciate the effectiveness of Habitat for Humanity's model: harnessing community volunteers to lower the sale price of a home so that it will be affordable for a family who needs it. The Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity is a small but mighty group full of passionate housing advocates and volunteers, and I've learned so much from my time spent on the Board. I'd recommend this volunteer position to anyone who would like to become more involved in their community, learn building skills, advocate for affordable housing, and work alongside great people!”

- Emily McDonald, Vice President

“I first joined the UVHFH Board of Directors to enhance family stability in my community through homeownership. Since then, my primary purpose of joining has been enhanced by personal growth: learning, development, reflection, and building relationships with dedicated volunteers. A welcoming and inclusive group, the Board of Directors collaborates, analyzes and problem solves while remaining keenly focused on our overall mission. I enjoy being a valued team member, who’s unique perspective is welcomed and encouraged. Although my time to volunteer is rather limited with two small children, I’ve found my time with the UVHFH Board of Directors extremely rewarding.”

- Drew Miraldi

“I serve as a non-voting board member at Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity through the Non-Profit Board Fellows Program at the Tuck School of Business. I joined because I saw how difficult it was for my Tuck classmates to secure affordable housing in the Upper Valley, and I realized how much more challenging the situation is for people with fewer resources. UVHH’s program model emphasizes compassion, careful stewardship of capital and human resources, and leveraging the perspectives of a diverse group of people in pursuit of a common mission. Contributing to UVHH’s work is incredibly rewarding for those who wish to learn new skills and have a direct positive impact on vulnerable members of our community.”

- Sam Gant, Tuck Board Fellow
